After talking with people on where the kill zone is on a hog & trying to explain how small it can be on a hog we did a little autopsy on a hog Alan shot a while back. In the first picture you can see an illustration of the kill zone. In the second picture you can see the kill zone as the foreleg is pulled back. You can see how low the heart sits in the chest. I hope these pics help a little bit.

Kevin,

Thanks for the best view I have ever seen of the kill zone.

Apparently a lot of target companies need to do some better research for their products

Thanks for sharing that info. I have heard how small the kill zone is but that really puts it into perspective.

I was watching RedArrow TV last night and they swear by hitting them high on the body. From what I understand from you guys is that you whant to hit em low right??

Great pic, thats the best I've seen. l like to aim dead center in the shoulder on a broadside shot, if I hit a little low I get heart, if I hit dead center I get lungs and if I hit a little high I get spine and drop them in thier tracks.

qtr'ing away works best for me when bowhunting, but a broadside shot right in the middle of the chest right behind the shoulderis a good shot also. Double lungs....................

I like a good quartering away shot, put the arrow in behind the last rib, and it comes out the off shoulder. Just like the second hog I shot in the featured vid. My favorite shot. They don't go far!!!!

I'm with Gary and Dude, quatering away for my bow shots. But with a rifle I like to hit the head/neck area, for sure on larger hogs like 200# and over.

I agree, here is one I shot with a 125 grain magnus, he didn't make it far.

i have found most of my drop shots hit either the spine right above the front legs or the hips. i love watching them try to run with their hind quarters in pieces!

Great illustration thank you. Planning my first ever hog hunt in TX and don't have a clue what I need or when to go, so I'm trying to get as much good information as I can. This is good information!
