You read all the time how much damge a hog can do. Millions of dollars a year! This place I like to hunt has 2 pastures that they bale hay out of..Its hard to bale with this.

That looks pretty familiar. I have areas about that size rooted up on our our place too. Drag with spike toothed harrow to help smooth out.

Here in N C we have alot of crop land around and any where there are hogs the farmers hste them. If they plant corn its over. I have pictures where the hogs have eaten 7-10 acers. They are worse than bear. In some places they have had to put some type(not swure of the product) struff that burns them up on the seed as they plant beans. THEY ARE TERIBLE------------------- AND I'M GLAD

Here in Montague county Texas anywhere I have fed hay to cattle over the winter the hogs go to town. That hay all piled up and moist underneath....kinda got me wandering one day...so I got the ole John Deer and scraped up some of those spots and I found the reason...any guesses!!!!! Come on.....take a guess...I bet someone out there knows the answer!!!!

All of those things exist in the old hay. But about a foot down there are some monster grub worms that those pigs must absolutely love. Some of them are about the size of your thumb!!! Scary lookin' things. Must be high in protein!!!

They get the same grubs from around bases of old rotten trees and roots. Big yellowish/white grubs with nasty yellow heads.

Hogs can smell deap into the ground for their food. I have seen them pull the corn seeds out of the ground as the tractor was planting 100 yards ahead. I have seen them ruin 150 acres of milo in one night. It is a big problem that only will not be solved with guns and traps. The only thing I have seen that works is so much stress from dogs or guns that they learn to go around your property.

Thats cool to find out what they're after. They can smell deep. I agree.

They do the same thing to my place. Plant a food plot bigger than you want cause chances are it will be depleted soon.

On a side not BustedAssRanch, I'm surprised that Chevy could make it over them rootin's! They have to be at least 6"-10" deep... :) :) :) :)

Since they eat grubs and worms it would be fun to take a shark pole and try out some hog fishing.

Man, they tore that area up pretty good. I have a ranch in Palo Pinto and there are about 20 spots that look like or worse than that. There is a house on the ranch and they tore the front yard up so bad I couldn't mow it for months. I've already killed over 15 this year and many more to come. I kill all of mine with a 17 HMR. I used to use a 260 but I've shot over 20 with the 17 and they all died instantly. I hit them all in the ear hole of course.

tey do have a good since of smell...

thats why they are used in forein countries to sniff out truffles under ground.....

friend of mine used to trap them and the only way he found to keep them in the pin where he released the was to bury tin siding about a foot and a half all the way around the pin because they would root there way out.

With all this hunting ,trapping and killing hogs.Does anybody think they have actually controlled the over all numbers. I hunt hogs for the sport and meat but I don't kill enough to controll them. Chuck

We've taken 187 hogs off of one ranch in 19 hunts in the last 2 months......we are definitely putting a dent in their numbers but it's a long way from "control". Last Thursday night we took out another 15......but we saw over a 100. I don't know if there IS a solution. We just need to continue the pressure......traps, daytime hunting, dogs, night hunting etc.....or it WILL get out of hand!

I am trying to remember the exact stats on the hogs ability to populate. 1 sow has an average birthing of 9 piglets at a time. Their gestation period is only about 3 1/2 months. So one sow can produce abpprox 18 piglets in a year. Those piglets reach sexual maturity in less than a year. So they will start reproducing typically before the one year mark. Now multiply 9 (the average litter) by the number of females from the "mom" ....and so on. It is quite staggering how fast they can multiply. You can't hunt them fast enough.

You want to put a dent in them....put a price on every head....it would draw hunters out of the woodwork

I think TPWD is doing a good job of educating landowners and hunters of opportunities to help decrease this hog problem, there are seminars held from time to time in different counties to bring together ideas and solutions to combat this problem.

Van Zandt county (Canton) Had a bounty on them a few yours ago they offered 7 bucks fror every pair of ears you brought in, need less to say the money they set aside for it dryed up quiker than all get out.

And ive seen alot worst damage than that. I have a 5 acre pasture that looks like a disk tore up from one end to the other with no untouched ground between. Its so bad i have to use a my DODGE to get threw it Cuz CHEVY and FORD wont make it.

I just got through watching a u tube video about hog hunting from helocopters ,yea I would love to ride shot gun on one of those hunts. But at the end of the video they posted it up that a single feral hog will do $1400 worth of damage to crops in there life time.Good reason to never let one pass.Whack um all.Chuck
