I DO! I use them around my game fence because the Yotes find a weak spot in the electric fence then dig under. They killed 5 of my sheep in two weeks!http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/mad.gif http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/naughty.gif So I put the snares on the holes they already have dug. Caught 3 this way in about 4 months. http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/dance.gif

I have been successful about 3 times in cathing pig with my snares in the past 6 months. I have only set them maybe a dozen times.

Nice snag of the song dog.

When I was a kid I caught a pile of yotes with snares growing up in westex. Find a hole in the fence and make your loop. Gotta be careful though, deer and such use the same crossings and youll catch them quick. Looks like yall have got it down.

I din't understand it. Were we near a snare set?

Snares sure seem risky to me. Unless you know of a spot only yotes travel through...to me it is like setting a hog trap without knowing what is coming in there an eating your bait. I have had up to five deer in one 8 foot round trap feeding on the bait...luckily I had the door wired open. I usually set up a trail cam on the hog trap to do a little monitoring, so I know exactly what is coming in and out of the trap. It would suck to trap five deer. And it would suck to snare one too. Good luck hunting, trapping, and snaring to you all!!!!

We only do it in small holes that are fresh dug. There is always a chance I guess a fawn could get caught in one but we never snare a hole big enough for an adult deer to get into.

MMMM...that makes sense. I guess seeing a hole dug out would be a good sign to loook for. I just assumed they used a pre existing game trail in the fence....And I guess it depends on the conditiion of the fence as well. I am learning something new here....cool!!!

an old rancher told me that if you have and issue with coyotes kill a few and hang'em on the fence where they came in. It scares thems off..... not sure if its true but better then ricking the snare catching what you do want coming in.....

I think they are a little cruel. Ok they are very cruel. But hey it is legal so have at it. just not something I could do then come home and play with my dogs.

Yea, they certainly are a rough way to go out. In the defense of my dad he has about 10-20 fawns that he is trying to keep healthy and safe. It's tough to do with Coyotes on the loose.

I haven't Cauchy any yotes or deer just hogs with them. It is kinda like running trot lines.

To answer rusa7476's comment the hang 'um on the fence thing. I know for us it didnt work. When I was living In KY we tried it at my friend Tony Woods Game Bird Farm and all it did was bring more yotes in. they fed on the hanging yotes. I'm not sure if they'll do the same in your area but they did in KY.

Riverhog, How bout making a thread on how to make our own snares. Especially one that will hold a 375 Hog!

use 3/16th stainless 7 strand aircraft cable, i braid loops into each end by seperating the cable in 1/2 ,forming a small loop then braid the cable back onto itself, smaller the loop the better, run one loop through the other loop this will form the snare end. i try to make all my snare sets on trails that have 3 to 5 inch dia. trees, attach cable half to three quarters up tree. this plays like a fishin rod, i have had hogs break trees. same if you anchor to something solid, cable have been broke before. make botom loop 10-14 inches in dia. place in trail or where they are going under fence, use light guage tie wire to hold loop open by tying sides off to existing trees or vegetation. please check snares as often as possible, hogs will tangle up and die

hey guys i'm a little slow didn't catch on to the 375 pound boar, actual weight was 275. set the snare at 6:00 p.m and caught the hog a 4:00 a.m., on weekends i hunt all night long, the big boar was coming into a turnip patch that a local farmer had planted, he was coming under a cattle panel fence. i had gotten on him once before with the dogs but he would stop, lost him in the river. not many 300 pound pigs around here, bast i have done is 290
