For those who hunt day and night, what has been your ratio of 'day-kill' hogs vs. 'night-kill' hogs? http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/think.gif

I think mine to date isabout 30% day , 70% night...

i have killed alot of hogs both ways, these days i am soley hunting for trophy dominate boar, when hunting the big boys almost always iot is a night time adventure as they becaome very nocturnal. ive killed some big hogs during daylight hours but alot of times i see sows and smaller boars during the days, a big trophy boar is more than likely going to be all alone, as he sprays his scent and has territory.

there are 3 things dominate boars do that is fight feed and breed they are constantly looking for receptive sows to breed,, they even defnd there territory agains no receptive sows and god fobid any other boar that comes into his territory

Ive killed all of my hogs during late evening or early morning except when we hunted the peanut fields down by Pearsall, Texas. We hunted them at night out of trucks with high rack seats. We would enter the fields blacked out and the farmer knew where the holes in the deer proof fences were that the hogs used to get access to the fields. When we would get close to a hole in the fence the farmer would light up the field with spotlights and the hogs would make a mad dash for the holes. We would go to work with shotguns and buckshot or slugs. It was fun especially when one hog I shot turned and charged the truck!

99% of my hog kills have been during the day.

I've SEENmore at night. Either from a distance, or just not shootable with a bow, but all but one of my hog kills has been either in the early morning hours, or later in te evening an hour or so before dark

Right now 100% of my hogs are taken at night. In another month or so I should start seeing hogs during the evening before dark.

I have killed all of my pigs during the day or right at dusk just before or getting dark.

I have not hunted at night with a spotlight as Itake my pigs as targets of opportunity while deer hunting. That is about to change now that deer season is closed.

probably 50/50 for me. All of my hogs have turned nocturnal right now...nothing before 8 p.m. - nothing after 5 a.m.http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Everything for me lately is daytime only. Colder weather I just listen for them fighting for a warm spot...if it is hot, they are laying up in the brush. Been easy the last month. I have 6 hogs so far this month/year.http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/whistle.gif

i hunt hogs almost entirely with dogs and it seems that our dogs hit more hogs from about 6 p.m. to about 11 p.m. and from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. of course it changes with the seasons but thats about peak for us.

All my nite kills were with a bow 4 total, the rest of my kills with a gun except 1 were daytime and numbers around 25.

My ratio is going to be a quiet different than others. First off I hunt EVERYfree chanceI get. I also work filming hunts as much as I can as well.

For the last 3 months EVERY hog that I killed, or filmedbeing killed has been after dark. Now that is in part to me using the Marauder from Hawglite. http://www.Hawglite.com Now a few of those hogs came out just before the sun dropped, and we waited for them until after dark during testing of the Marauder.

One thing I have found out is that the hogs seem to be less skiddish at night than hey are during the daytime, and with the Marauder I prefer to actually hunt at night now instead of the daylight.

Ihave not done much night hunting. Ihave only been tried it about 4 times while testing various bow lights, but Ikilled a hog every time so Iguess my ratio is 100%.http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/dance.gif

I can vouch for that. I've been on my hands and knees at11 p.m. tracking blood trails through some pretty thick stuff with Nate. Iused him as my shield.http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/lol.gif

I'm guessing a 50/50 split. I think night would be more productive if I had the chance to hunt it more.

I'd say 95+% of my kills are at night. Idon't even have feeders set to go off until it's dark.http://texashoghunter.com/images/images/forum/emoticons/salut.gif

Lately 5 out of the last 6 we have killed since late March have been an hour or two after dark.

I'd say my day to night ratio for 2009 was 30% day and 70% at night. I did alot more night hog hunting this last year than in years past. Almost all that where killed after dark where within 2 to 2 1/2 hours of sunset.

CODY

In years past maybe 5 a year, but this last year I moved back to my home town and I got alot more hunting in. Last year (2009) I'd say I killed 20 and another 10-12 were killed by friends I brought along to my places. I plan to shot even more this year. I'm going to keep a record for the 2010 year of all hogs I take and my success ratio.

2009 - 70% night kills, back in 2005 70% of kills were durin day hours. lookin over records and pictures it seems the hogs have been coming increasingly nocturnal. but i didn't have the toys to hunt at night back then as i have now

I have only seen hogs during the daytime twice on my property and have only killed them at night. They may come to the feeders sometimes during the daylight hours or right at dawn or dusk, but I never see them despite being present well before dark (usually a couple of hours) or after sunup (1-2 hours).
