Yote Hunting

Hey Guys,

I know this is off of hog hunting, but I need to ask. What is the best time of day to try and hunt yote's? Ialso know they are active in the evenings and early in the morning as are deer and hogs but from alot of the shows Ihave seen, they can also be hunted during the daytime. Ihave some issues with them on my place and want to rid as many of them from there as possible. Any help will do.

Gary, usually when I have a Yote problem, I can kinda scout out the dogs and figure out real quick when and where they are throughout the day...we have had quite an infestation of them over at my Dad's place, and we got them figured out in a couple of days. I saw 4 last night walking to the stand to hog hunt and they were making all kinds of racket right after dark...bet they are running around out there right now!!! Most definitely see more activity right before dark or just after!!! Time to break out the Destroyer!!!

I agree they are much more active early in the am or late in the day, try baiting them with fish guts, hog guts or any stinky dead road kill and watch the bait just like hunting hogs or deer, those suckers are smart and hard to hunt!!!

I just got set up to do some yote hunting so if any of you guys need some yote "management" give me a shout. I'm willing to drive and bring the beer!

I know that there are alot of commercial calls out there. Which ones would be best to start outwith? Knight and Hale make some good calls, alongwith the mech tail twitching and Primo's also. Is there any baits out there for them besides something dead?

I just bought a Crack Rabbit closed reed call and it is really easy to master. You will sound like a dying rabbit in no time. Crack Predator calls are a little more expensive than the Knight and Hale call you can get at Academy but they are well worth it. I picked up a FoxPro Spitfire and a Mojo Critter. Shouldn't need any more than that to get started but I got a custom Howler from another member on the BTO forum. Of course I had to get a custom lanyard to keep it all together and easily accessible so I hit up Predator Masters for a lanyard made by Reese. Now I'm just waiting on my 22-250 Savage 10 Predator Hunter in Max camo with a Nikon Coyote scope to show up. I have my 870 set up with a new 26" bbl and a .665 choke shooting #4 buck for the shots under 60 yds. As far as baits go, there are several out there, check out a fur trapping site for those. Haven't heard of anyone actually using them though. Stick with a closed reed distress call first. You probably wont need any more than that to call one in. I just want then in my lap so I can get them with the 870.

Don't be suprised if the first thing you call in is a gray fox, they always seem to be the first critter to show for me when I have used distressed calls.
