strange PM's?

anybody else getting strange PM's or is it just me. I havnt been on here in a long time, but got an e-mail today, saying i had a msg. when i checked it, i was kind of confused, sause i thought this was a hog hunting sight, not a dating, or matchmaker sight. this is the 2nd one like this. Just trying to figure out whats going on.

I get them all of the time in my inbox. That and Viagra ads. LOL!!!!!!!!!

We've had a rash of Chinese blog spammers lately....about 4 a day. This one took it a step farther and sent out 197 personal messages!



Most of these spammers are posting crap in the Blog section.....which may soon go "bye-bye". Very few people use the blogs and it's simply not worth the trouble cleaning it up every day.



Another thing that may change is the way new users sign up. Currently, new users can post to the blogs and forums as soon as they sign up....they are automatically enabled. That's the way I would prefer to keep it but these spammers are making me re-think that policy. I may change the signup procedure so that new users can't post anything until I manually enable them, Some spammers may still make it through, but I'll weed out 90+% of them.



I'm sorry about these troublemakers.....if you have any ideas, let me know.

No big deal, just figured it was some kind of scam or virus thing. Not to mention, heaven help, my wife go to being nosey and see that, i have a hard enough time as it is. LOL!

No virus....just spammers.



I went ahead and changed the signup procedure. Now, new users aren't automatically enabled when they sign up....I've got to manually do that. It's a pain in the a$$, but it's not as bad as deleting all of their pm's and blog entries.



It works....three people signed up since last night and two of them were "would-be" spammers....guess who DIDN'T get enabled....hehehe.

Just checkin to see how things are going and got the same type of PM too. simple delete of message took care of that. hopefully this is not a sign of things to come on the PM side of things.

Just read Gigem's post and glad to see the new process is working.
