Tonight was the 1st hunt I have done with just my dogs. I have been hunting with Lance aka Catchrcall. Being the 1st of the week, I didn't think Lance could make it so I decided to try it by my self. I have a male dog that has hunted three times. I have a gyp that has been used for tracking, and a catch dog that has caught on two hogs. I didn't really know what to expect but I didn't really have my hopes up either. Here is what happened....
My boy and I loaded up the dogs and headed to the ranch. We decided to sit about 100 yards off the feeder and wait for it to go off. It went off at 5:00pm. Shortly after, the hogs came out. They spotted us as we were getting the dogs ready to cut loose. Abby, my tracker to off straight away with Jake on her heels.
They exploaded into the brush and the chase was on. We had a few pigs in the "less than 100#" class and these guys were straight runners. Abby bayed 1st so I ran in after with Sadie in the lead. James went after the 4 wheeler. I ran into a wall of brush were I saw Abby bayed solid. The hog broke before I could let Sadie go. We then heard Jake bayed about 100 yards off so we ran back the other way and into a gulley that was thick as all get out.
We get to the bottom and there's my boy Jake. Bayed solid. The pig tried to break for it but the pit bull in Jake kicked in and he was caught. I cut Sadie loose and she wasted no time grabbing an ear. I stuck the pig and we moved back out to the road.
Abby disappeard. We left the dead hog on the road and went looking for Abby. We made a large loop stopping to call from time to time. We made it back to the hog were guess what we found... Abby was standing beside the hog licking on the wounds. I guess she winded the blood and did what she does best. I hope you enjoyed the story and the pics.
