• Youth Hunt- Huge Success!

The 14th Annual Madison County Youth Hunt is in the books...and it was a huge success ! 11 seventh and eigth graders from Madisonville managed to bag 12 whitetail deer during the weekend-long hunt.

The Youth Hunt was started in 1999 and is still going strong today. Thanks to countless volunteers and sponsors over the years, almost 200 young men and women have participated in this annual event. Held on the second weekend of December each year, the hunt provides a chance to enjoy the Great Outdoors, to some kids that might not otherwise have that opportunity.

This years' group started out their adventure on Friday, with a trip to the Madison County Gun Club. After a gun safety briefing by local Game Warden, Chris Lasiter, each hunter got a chance to show off their marksmanship skills.

Once they were done at the range, the group was transported to the camp for a venison stew dinner and some much-needed rest. Breakfast came early on Saturday...followed by a successful morning hunt, harvesting three management deer. The afternoon hunt brought the tally to 5.

Another great meal of smoked pork (wild hog) capped off a successful Day 1 of hunting. After light breakfast, the kids hit the stands again and they finished the hunt with a total of 12 deer! All of the deer were carried to Theiss Sausage, in Normangee , for processing. Once it's processed, the meat will be eqully divided between the hunters.

Thanks again to all of the volunteers and to the kids! We all had a Great time and we're already looking forward to next year!
