Anyone curious as to what sized hog it takes to win a jacket at Los Cazadores (south TX premier contest)? Usually around 325# and a 255# off of our place won a jacket in the 2007-8 season.

Super pig...! I killed a native one a few years ago that has 7 5/8" tushes which scores very high BUT that is the length extracted for measurement. This hog is going to measure at least 10"+.
Jason, I've killed them out to 80 yds and as aggiebowhunter has noted they drop on the spot with the ear (area) shot. The supurb accuracy of the 17 makes this an easy task.
We shoot a lot of hogs at our place with the 17 HMR because it doesn't spook the deer like a ccenterfire does and is very effective.

This was Annette's first good hog. She had taken several smaller hogs before this one and after making a great stalk on this one whacked him with her 243.

I went on my first hunt with dogs from some guys out of Stockdale. We went to a ranch east of Carrizo Springs and had a good hunt. It is hard for an old man like me to get to the dogs before it is...
