    Official hog slaying gun

http://www.alexanderarms.com/pics/sspics/hr/54.jpg The .50 Beowulf® was designed to generate devastating stopping power at short to moderate ranges. Combining the rugged reliability of the AR15/M16 style weapons with a unique .500 inch projectile and cartridge, this semi automatic weapon is unsurpassed as a close quarter combat weapon on battlefields in the Middle East. It doesn’t stop there. This unique weapon is equally at home in the brush, capable of knocking down virtually anything you may run across. For wild pig hunting the rifle is without equal and is being used not only by hunters, but by game control agencies as well. The combination of heavy large diameter bullets, moderate velocities and 100% reliability enables the Beowulf® to tackle the largest game found in North America and it has been used against Elk, Buffalo and Bear with superb results. If your looking for something to stop the hogs, this will do it. I have been using it now for over two years and it works wonders.

First time I ever knew about this round is when I found an empty case on the Smith Ranch when we were hunting there last year. Really weird looking case.....big, fat 50 cal. case with a little bitty rim under it! Looks like a 454 casull on steroids! I'll bet it does have a lot of knockdown!

It does have some pwoer thats for sure. Last year I shot a white tail with it just for kicks. I shot it right behine the shoulder. The bullet never hit bone, but when I dressed it out both side of the rib cage where broken away just from the force of the impact. It spins hogs around in circles before they drop. Its alot of fun to play with. It just cost alot to shoot it.

I carry a Bushmaster on the back of my Rhino when I'm working on the ranch. When I use it for hunting I have an upper in 6.8mm SPC, but for everyday use I use the .223 upper. In 2008 I shot about 20 hogs with the .223, and none of them ran more than five steps, most of them DRT. All of them shot in the head/neck, point of aim right behind the ear. Don't get me wrong--I prefer to hunt with the 6.8 SPC and always use it on deer, but the little .223 works pretty darned well as a ranch rifle and has dispatched many hogs and other varmints.
