    Best Factory Bullet and Cal.

Best Factory Bullet and Cal. in your opinionfor big hogs 200 plus lbs?(lung shot -not in ear or neck)(100 yrd or less) include bullet type and gr. wt-HP,corelock,etc. What you think is the best right out of the box?(no hand loads)

.270 Winchester Hornady Light Magnum or Custom in a 130grn BTSP is what I prefer. Ive killed prairie dogs to elk with it. However the .45-70 with the 405grn lead bullet is a pure snot knockersince your talking <100 yards.

SInce most hogs are killed at 100yds or less and in less than favorable places, I like the short gun. Lever action like the 45-70 or my .44 mag. The new Hornady Lever Evolutionammo is great. Iuse225gr FTX or Remington180gr JSP. Both good to 100 yds and a bit more. Ilike my Ruger .44 mag Carbine also for busting hogs. Rolls them nicely.

12 gauge Brenneke Black Magic Slugs seemed to do the best for me in the past. The one in my avatar was taken with a .308 using a 150 grain soft point. He dropped within 40 yards.

Hornady LeverEvo's FTX, .30-30, 160 gr. Every hog I have ever taken has been within 100 yds. and they all dropped with the exception of one that ran 100 yds. Head, neck, spine, heart, lung, they all drop right there....

.308 150 gr. I shoot them in the shoulder. not behind the shoulder. in the shoulder. They can't run without it.

I feel that the best caliber is the 7mm mag. With the 270 just slightly behind. As far as bullets go I use Remington Corelock's for both, not sure if they are the best but they get the job done for a good price that's for sure.
