The Christening of the "Critter Gitter"

Well, I finally decided it was time to retire the old 10' bumper-pull cattle trailer that we used to transport hogs from the traps to their "final destination". (That trailer belonged to my grandfather......and it wasn't anywhere near new when I was a kid.) So we decided to build the "Critter Gitter". I had a 12' utility trailer that I don't use much so we built a 2-compartment cage on it, complete with sliding doors and a fold-down loading ramp. We finished it last week but, as luck would have it, we weren't catching anything in our traps...so we couldn't try it out. Finally, this morning, my neighbor called and told me that he had a few hogs for me....Finally we were gonna get to try it out! And it worked....like a charm ! With the old trailer, we had to use a 2"x12" to keep the hogs from going under the trailer....now the hinged ramp makes it a lot easier. We divided the cage into two compartments, so that if we caught hogs in multiple traps, we could shut one group in the front compartment and load another group in the rear area. It didn't take long and the sow, shoat and 2 piglets were loaded and ready to go. After flipping the ramp up , we were ready to go!
