    hog myths

I dis-proved something that I had read about trapping hogs. It was said that you shouldn't shoot hogs in your trap, that it would deter others with the blood and all. Well,,,,,,,,,, shot one big boar in trap, and two days later got to shoot another. Guess it didn't bother him. Ya'll have any other misconceptions????

The place I am hunting on has two corral traps, the northern one was set last year and caught 19 hogs. They killed 6 and let 13 go.Hogs will go to the front gate and not in .They have cleaned the corn up in the other trap. Was it the smell of dead hogs or the fact that the 13 let go are training the rest to stay out.I saw a video of an old sow chasing her pigs back from the door of a trap. This place is loaded with hogs.No hogs will ever be turned loose again, Chuck

Have done it several times, killed my catch in the trap and have hogs in it the next day having never moved the trap. These are mobile traps I'm talking about also, not corral type.

I have killed 6 inside my trap and had lots of blood and still had more come in the next night.

cabledad,,,,,,,,,,,i hear you can get in trouble for trapping and releasing hogs. Don't know if there is any truth to it, just what i heard. I'll research it and see what I can find out.

Hog Trap Design by Billy Higginbotham Professor and Extension Wildlife and Fisheries Specialist Texas AgriLife Extension-TAMU Center at Overton by Don Neuendorff Research Associate-Texas Agricultural Experiment Station TAMU-Overton Larger traps represent a better opportunity to catch the most hogs at one time as compared to the smaller box traps that can only hold a few hogs or may be avoided altogether by some “trap-wise” hogs. Do not re-release hogs that are trapped as this just causes problems for other landowners. In fact, it is illegal to capture and re-release hogs without having them screened by a veterinarian for brucellosis and pseudorabies. Contact your local Texas Animal Health Commission for more info on that regulation.

My neighbor down the road has a trap. We shoot hogs in it regularly, they come right back. Wish they'd come to my place.
